Communiqué de presse - 17 octobre 2024 (version anglaise ci-après)

Plus de 30 organisations européennes chargées des inventaires forestiers nationaux (IFN) collaborent depuis 2003 au sein d'un réseau informel : le Réseau européen des inventaires forestiers nationaux (European National Forest Inventories Network ou ENFIN).
Les inventaires forestiers nationaux (IFN) sont les dispositifs les plus complets et les plus fiables pour le suivi des forêts à grande échelle. Dans un contexte où le changement climatique affecte de plus en plus les forêts, et où les attentes des sociétés à l‘égard des forêts sont de plus en plus nombreuses, il est primordial que les IFN continuent à développer l'information forestière tant au niveau national qu'européen.
Forts de leur expérience et désireux de renforcer le rôle que le réseau joue depuis de nombreuses années dans le développement scientifique, technologique et de la gouvernance au niveau européen, les membres du réseau ont officiellement créé, le 14 octobre 2024, l’association ENFIN. Cette association sera enregistrée en France et son siège sera établi à l’IGN, en France.
L'association travaillera à une meilleure harmonisation des informations forestières et aidera les IFN à contribuer collectivement aux débats européens et internationaux sur toutes les questions de politiques publiques liées à la forêt. 
La vision d'ENFIN est celle d'une Europe où les forêts prospèrent et contribuent ainsi à l'adaptation au changement climatique et à son atténuation.
L'Association œuvrera au suivi des forêts européennes en fournissant un forum de discussion pour les organismes responsables des IFN en Europe, et en renforçant la visibilité et la crédibilité de leur production. 
Les valeurs fondamentales d'ENFIN sont une approche transparente et une rigueur scientifique dans son travail, au service de la société et de ses besoins.
L'ENFIN Association compte 18 membres fondateurs ; plusieurs autres organisations européennes sont sur le point de la rejoindre. L’Association propose également des partenariats à d’autres institutions désireuses de promouvoir ses objectifs.

European National Forest Inventories join forces for European forest monitoring and create ENFIN Association

More than 30 European organisations in charge of National Forest Inventories (NFI), have worked in collaboration since 2003 through a voluntary network: the European National Forest Inventories Network (ENFIN).
National Forest Inventories (NFIs) represent the most comprehensive, reliable, large-scale forest monitoring systems. In the context of growing climate change impacts on forests and increasing human expectations on forests, NFIs have to further develop forest information both at country and European levels.
Building on their experience and willing to strengthen the role the network has been playing for many years in developing science, technology and governance at European level, the members established a formal ENFIN Association on October 14th. The association is registered under French law and the office will be established in France.
The ENFIN Association will work towards better harmonized forest information and help NFIs collectively contribute to European and international debates in a broad range of forest related policies. 
ENFIN’s vision is for a Europe where forests thrive and hence contribute to climate change adaptation and mitigation.
The association will work towards European Forest Monitoring by providing a discussion forum for bodies responsible for NFIs in Europe and strengthening their outreach through enhanced visibility and credibility to their products that support the development of forest related policies.
ENFIN’s core values are transparent approach and scientific rigour to its work while serving societal needs.
At the first and founding meeting, 18 organisations became members of the ENFIN association and several other European NFI organisations are on their way to join the association.
The ENFIN Association also offers partnership for other organisations that want to promote the aims of the association.
